Dribbling– Developing Hand-Eye Coordination
A large part of basketball skills training for kids will be focused on the art of dribbling. This fundamental basketball skill is unique to the sport and provides incredible benefits for our children. The more they practice, the more their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills will improve. The younger we get a child into basketball, the more control they will have over their movements. To help kids improve their basketball skills, we carry out several fun and interactive activities. Some of our beginner-friendly dribbling exercises include bouncing and catching, low dribbles, and rolling the ball. Each one is brilliant for developing fundamental kid’s basketball skills.
Passing – Learning to Share the Ball
One thing that some of our younger players struggle with in the beginning is how to share the ball. Usually, from too much excitement, passing the ball is often a second thought, but we turn it into second nature. When a child joins our school holiday basketball program, the difference in their behaviour and personality by the end is astonishing. Besides learning how to pass the ball properly, this kid’s basketball skill teaches them how to share, be part of a team, cooperate, communicate, and enhance all aspects of their social skills. Footwork – Improving Balance and Movement
Another crucial skill to develop in both basketball and growing children is footwork. Small exercises like jumping over lines massively improve balance. Skipping drills help a child develop a sense of coordination and rhythm, and pivoting practice helps a child master the control they have over their movement. These skills are especially important for our Mini Boomers, as this is the time in their lives when they are beginning to master their movement and precision.
